In 1997, Bethel Suites was added to the continuum of services provided by Bethel Lutheran Home, Inc. The goal of assisted living is to provide care while encouraging independence in the residents who live there. Residents must be independent or require minimal assistance with daily tasks.

Each assisted living suite is 420 square feet and includes a kitchenette, living area, bedroom and private bathroom. Residents furnish their own suite to make it feel like home. The facility has common areas which include a day room equipped with TV, VCR and a billiard table, sitting areas for visiting, game areas for activities, and a dining room in which menus prepared by the Bethel Home kitchen are served.

Bethel Suites is licensed by the South Dakota Department of Health as an assisted living facility that is also authorized to provide these additional services:

  • Having residents move in or stay who have some type of cognition impairment.
  • Medication administration.
  • Having residents move in or stay who have some type of physical impairment.
  • Having residents who are incapable of evacuating the building in case of an emergency, unless assisted by staff.
  • Having residents move in or stay who are dependant upon oxygen, whether in tanks or by a concentrator.
  • Having residents move in or stay who are in need of a therapeutic diet as ordered by their physician and overseen by a dietitian.

Staff in the assisted living center are under the direction of the Administrator and the Director of Nursing. The Director of Nursing appoints a Registered Nurse (RN) to oversee the resident care in the center. The RN is on duty one day per week, with the exception of the fourth week of each month, and then the RN is in the facility two days that week. There are supportive services from Bethel Home delivered to Bethel Suites by our professional nursing staff, which is overseen by our Director of Nursing.

The Residential Attendants (RA) work a twelve-hour shift, and there is always staff on duty, 24-hours per day. Our staff are not only trained in medication administration, but many, if not all, are also Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA).

Bethel Suites provide the following services:

  • 24-hour certified medication aide on duty
  • Menus approved by our consulting dietitian which offer three meals and snacks each day
  • Weekly housekeeping and laundry service
  • A variety of activities
  • Full-time maintenance (through Bethel Home)
  • Full-time licensed Social Worker (through Bethel Home)
  • Transportation to local medical appointments
  • Use of Bethel van (on an “as available” basis) for family outings
  • Toll-free number for the convenience of the residents and their families (through Bethel Home)
  • Cable television
  • Water and sewer paid
  • RN on duty every week
  • Supportive nursing services provided by Bethel Home

Should a resident need other services within the Bethel Community, they are given priority consideration for admission into the apartments, the nursing facility, or the adult day service program.
