Bethel Apartments were opened in November of 1990, and introduced the Madison area the concept of congregate housing. Congregate housing allows individuals to remain as independent as possible, and yet makes available a wide variety of supportive services.

Twelve two-bedroom apartments are within this addition. Each apartment is 800 square feet in size and wheelchair accessible throughout. The apartments consist of a kitchen with dining area, living room, bathroom and a storeroom equipped with shelves and washer/dryer hookups.

The facility has a community room which is used for the daily noon meal and activities. It may be reserved for use by the tenants for family gatherings. Bethel Apartments also has a laundry room equipped with a washer and dryer. Should a tenant need other services within the Bethel Community, they are given priority consideration for admission into the assisted living facility, adult day services program or the nursing facility.

Bethel Apartments is still the only congregate housing site of its kind in Lake County. In 2009, the board of directors are planning to break ground for a second set of apartments that will be built onto the original apartment complex. These new apartments will be larger in overall size, which will afford more living space for apartment tenants in both bedrooms and in the living room area. New attached garages will be built for both the new apartments being built and also for the original set of apartments as well.

• 24-hour nurse call system (through Bethel Home).
• Home health services (at an extra charge) which includes medication set-up
• Menus approved by our consulting dietitian which offer the noon meal (breakfast and supper available at an extra charge).
• Weekly housekeeping service
• Full-time maintenance staff (through Bethel Home)
• Group activities provided by the activities department
• Transportation to local medical appointments
• Total maintenance and upkeep (through Bethel Home)
• Water and sewer
• Cable television
• Electrical outlet by parking space
• Bathing assistant is available to tenants through our New Hope Adult Day Service
